Hi Christian,
Do you have 17.04 dev packages or do you build packages with a different distro?

Canonical has recently released the final ISO images of the Ubuntu 17.10 (Artful Aardvark) [1]. Unfortunately Canonical has removed the PowerPC architecture. Consequently Canonical will not releasing PowerPC images anymore. Ubuntu MATE 16.04 will continue to support 32-bit PowerPC until 2019 and Canonical will offer security updates for the version 16.04 until 2021. The latest LTS release is 16.04.3 [2]. Fortunately we have a fork of ubuntu MATE 17.04, which I have updated and released as the MATE PowerPC Remix 2017. Today, I released the version 0.8 of the MATE PowerPC Remix 2017.

@xeno

There seems to be some 'broken' (or improperly installed) components in the MATE PowerPC Remix 2017 (v. 0.8)... I noticed this after I created a new user account with 'administrator' rights. The system reported about the problem after I logged in, and suggested to remove the broken packages. I let it to do that, and everything seems to be ok now. The default user account (AmigaOne) is not an 'administrator', so the problem was invisible when using that.

Maybe this could be fixed for the next version...?

Hi All,

Canonical has released the final ISO images of Ubuntu 18.04 (Bionic Beaver) [1] [2] [3] [4]. Unfortunately Canonical removed the PowerPC architecture last year. Consequently Canonical will not releasing PowerPC images for the version 18.04. Ubuntu MATE 16.04 will continue to support 32-bit PowerPC until 2019 and Canonical will offer security updates for the version 16.04 until 2021. The latest LTS release is 16.04.4 [5]. Fortunately we have a fork of the last ubuntu MATE (17.04), which I have updated and released as the MATE PowerPC Remix 2017. Today, I released the version 0.9 of the MATE PowerPC Remix 2017.

  • Radio 3.103 added (A ncurses-based FM radio application)
  • tvtime 1.0.2 added (A high quality television application for use with video capture cards)
  • Kradio4 4.0.8 added (Comfortable radio application)
  • Kaffeine 2.0.5 added (A media player with digital TV support)
  • Yabause 0.9.14-2 added (Sega Saturn emulator)

  • unrar 5.4.5 added
  • Keepassx 2.0.3-1 added (Free/open-source password manager)
  • Qterminal 0.7.1 added
  • Guake 0.8.8 added (Drop-down terminal)
  • The distribution has been completely rebranded (Thanks to Casey)

What GPUs does this build of mesa work with? I have the Radeon 7750 - is this fully supported?

No, it isn't fully supported. You can boot the MATE PowerPC Remix 2017 0.9 and work with it but it doesn't have support for hardware 3D acceleration with your Radeon 7750. You need a Radeon HD6xxx or lower to get hardware 3D acceleration.

Hi All,

If you want to install deb packages on the new MATE PowerPC Remix 2017 0.9 then use sudo dpkg -i <package>.

For example installing Zenmap:

Thanks for the reply, Christian.

Is it theoretically possible to build full support for the Radeon 7750?

My pie-in-the-sky idea for my X5000 is to triple boot OS4, MorphOS, and linux. The biggest blocker for me at this point is the 3d acceleration. This card works a treat with OS4, which is ostensibly the main point of me purchasing the X5000 in the first place, so I'm disinclined to do any type of a hardware swap.

Currently, it isn't possible to build it with full support for your Radeon 7750.

Another solution:
Spectre660 wrote:Updating configuration .
X5000 configuration information updated .

Full 3D GPU acceleration under both AmigaOS 4.1 and Linux up to supported levels under both OS'es.
Open Gl 3.3 capabilities under Linux so 3D games run including Christian's Supertuxkart-0.8-1-2 version, Caseycullen's Xonotic version and Torcs. Linux Games like xontic and Quake III work best at default resolution (640x400) see QUAKE III fps Benchmarks below

PCIEx16 = Radeon R9-270X Graphics Card
PCIEX4 = Empty (Blocked by video Card)
PCIEX1 = SATA 3 Controller (Marvel 88SE9215 chipset) for Linux Hard Drive
PCIEX1 = TP-Link Gigabit Ethernet PCI-Express Network Adapter (TG-3468) works under both OS'es
PCIEX1 = ATI FirePro 2260 Graphics Card . Primamry LINUX card (Does not function under AmigaOS 4.1FE)
PCI = Empty
PCI = SoundBlaster Live! (Using the mem=3500M command line for Linux use)

Both video cards connected to the same monitor .
HDMI Audio also possible via the FirePro 2260 card under Linux .

Quake III Benchmarks

X5000/20 Ubuntu 16.04 .
Quake III (demo four) default Settings 640x400 .

Radeon FireMV 2260 pciex1 (pciex1 Slot) = 53.4fps (R9-270X in pciex16 Slot)
Radeon FireMV 2260 pciex1 (pciex16 Slot) = 55.6fps
Radeon HD 6450 pciex16 (pciex16 Slot) = 63.5fps
Radeon HD 6570 pciex16 (pciex16 Slot) = 78.2fps

X5000/20 AmigaOS 4.1FE update 1 Radeon HD driver v3.4 Warp3D SI 53.27 MiniGL 2.21
Quake III (demo four) default Settings 640x400 .

Radeon R7-240 pciex16 (pciex16 Slot) = 76.1fps
Radeon R9-270X pciex16 (pciex16 Slot) = 99.5fps
