Tested 0.6 on X5000; it works well for the most part.
Firefox settings have to be changed to disable VLC plugin. Greasemonkey works with HTML5 or MPEG, but Firefox 52 still displays wrong colors for videos even when using Greasemonkey, probably because the VLC plugin is disabled.
Video playback on X5000 is again much better using mplayer compared to mpv.
Also, this isn't really a problem, but those with American English keyboards will need to change the keyboard layout from UK. I couldn't figure out why my symbols were all mixed up at first ;)

Hi Casey,

Thanks a lot for testing! Yes, I know the issues with Firefox. Actually you just need the VLC plugin for the correct colors but unfortunately VLC doesn't work on the X5000. I will let the MPlayer on the MATE PowerPC Remix because it works well on your X5000. Thanks for the hint because of the keyboard.

Cheers,
Christian

Hi All,

I was able to compile VLC without AltiVec on Debian Sid yesterday. I had to install a lot of missing packages because of dependencies. VLC starts but it doesn't work reliable. It crashes a lot. After that I installed the latest VLC from the Debian Sid repository. OK I know it has AltiVec support so it doesn't work on the X5000 but I wanted to know how well it works. Unfortunately it doesn't work reliable either.
On the MATE PowerPC Remix 2017 VLC works without any problems on the X1000 but it doesn't work on the X5000 because of the AltiVec support. Therefore I wanted a VLC without AltiVec support but it isn't possible to compile a stable VLC currently.

Christian

Hi All,

I installed the version 0.7 of the MATE PowerPC Remix 2017 on my new AmigaOne X5000 today.

I booted the MATE PowerPC Remix 2017 from a USB flash drive. After that I created a fat16 boot partition on my SSD for the kernel and the dtb file. Then I created a big ext4 partiton for the MATE PowerPC Remix 2017. After creating partitions I copied with rsync the content of the USB flash drive to the big ext4 partition.

Code: Select all

sudo mount -- Your ext4 partition -- /mnt
sudo rsync --stats --progress --numeric-ids -axAhHSP / /mnt/ --exclude=/dev --exclude=/proc --exclude=/sys --exclude=/tmp --exclude=/mnt --exclude=/media
sudo mkdir /mnt/tmp /mnt/sys /mnt/proc /mnt/dev /mnt/media
Afterwards I copied the kernel and the dtb file to the small fat16 partition.

With the followings commands I can boot the installed MATE PowerPC Remix 2017 from the SSD:

Code: Select all

X5000> setenv bootargs "root=/dev/sda2 mem=3500M"
X5000> load sata 0:1 1000000 uImage
X5000> load sata 0:1 2000000 cyrus.dtb
X5000> bootm 1000000 - 2000000
You can set up the button "Start Linux" with the following commands:

Code: Select all

X5000> setenv linuxboot 'setenv bootargs root=/dev/sda2 mem=3500M ; load sata 0:1 1000000 uImage ; load sata 0:1 2000000 cyrus.dtb ; bootm 1000000 - 2000000'
X5000> saveenv

Hi All,

I copied the MATE PowerPC Remix 2017 with 'dd' from a USB flash drive to another partition on my X5000. In my point of view it is better to copy it with 'dd' instead of 'rsync'. After that I increased the partition size with GParted.

I got finally the MATE PowerPC Remix 2017 (v.0.5) installed on a USB stick.... What kernel version should I use with it? I have already tested several ones, but none of these seem to work:

- 4.4.8, 4.9.0 and 4.10.0 do not boot at all
- 4.9.38 and 4.12.0 seem to boot normally, but finally I get on the screen just pixel garbage and then a black screen (alternating eternally with each other)

The latter two ones work ok with Ubuntu 16.04 Live USB, though.

The 5020.dtb I use is the poweroff version (28 060 Kb).

For Radeon SI cards you need to use fbdev for the Driver in the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file.

Code: Select all

Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Monitor0"
EndSection

Section "Device"
Identifier "Device0"
Driver "fbdev"
EndSection

Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen0"
Device "Device0"
Monitor "Monitor0"
DefaultDepth 24
SubSection "Display"
Viewport 0 0
Depth 24
EndSubSection
EndSection

Just to be sure, I tested it the opposite way, and changed the default 'fbdev' to 'radeon', and also tested the xorg.conf from 16.04. No effect, the same garbage shown on screen... So the issue seem not to be caused by this setting.
