Fantastic! :-) Well done!

Using the "Marco" Compton GPU Composter seems to work perfectly.
Unfortunately I can't see your images. Which graphics card is installed in your X5000?

I'm using a Radeon HD 6870 (BARTS)

This should work better, I hope...

Debian based net installer for 17.04 for testing .
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BxoZd ... C1QSE9OZnM

Gives an error during installation after the "Select and Install Software" (Tested on Sam460ex) but select the next option "Continue without Bootloader" after to complete the installation.
Also you need to remove remove packages lsvpd and ppc64-diag on rebooting .

Tested on X5000.

I was not able to successfully install Ubuntu-Mate 17.04 via the Debian-based installer.
-during install, received the partitioning warning, this warning also comes up with Ubuntu-Mate 16.04 and Debian-8, but choosing yes to continue works fine
-during install, after files were installed, received an "Installation Fail" warning regarding lsvdp configuration, choosing "Continue without Bootloader" works and installation finishes
-upon reboot the system displays blank/black screen; I logged into terminal and removed lsvdp and ppc-diag, then rebooted again, this time the system showed the MATE desktop login screen
-able to enter username and password, but no panels, menus or icons load

I was able to successfully install Debian-8.
-did not receive lsvdp error, did not have to remove lsdvp or ppc64-diag
-tested both KDE and MATE, both seem to work very well except I cannot get graphics hardware acceleration working (installed non-free firmware)

EDIT:
I have but ends up with flashing cursor on reboot.

Its interesting since I can successfully upgrade 16.04 to 17.04 but I can't get the fresh install to work, not sure why this would be.

Hi All,

It is still possible to upgrade ubuntu MATE 17.04 PowerPC. Maybe we have luck and we can release an unofficial ubuntu MATE 17.04 PowerPC for our NG Amigas. Of course we have to use another name for it. What do you think about "MATE PowerPC Remix 2017"?

I have created some wallpapers for the new MATE PowerPC Remix 2017. (unofficial ubuntu MATE 17.04 PowerPC)

Christian, I think this is a great idea!
I personally would rather shorten 2017 to '17 - it reflects both the year and the version of ubuntu the remix is based off of, and it won't seem outdated in 2018+
But this is a very trivial preference and I think using 2017 would also be fine. Or perhaps "MATE PowerPC Remix NG-17". Just an idea :D

Unfortunately it is definitely outdated in 2018. This is the last mainline Ubuntu for PowerPC. In 2018 we have only the longterm version 16.04. I hope, we'll get the upgrades for ubuntu MATE 17.04 PowerPC till the official release in April.
