I did now test it... It seems to boot normally, but has unfortunately no effect on the screen problem I have with Mate 17.04. With Ubuntu 16.04 it works ok.
BTW, by time to time, the desktop menu and toolbar at the bottom of screen just dissappear when using Ubuntu 16.04 (happened also when testing this 4.12-rc7). Is there a keyboard command which can toggle them on/off and which I just succeed to press accidently, or is there possbily a bug which causes this...?

Roland,
Please delete the line SwapBuffersWait in the xorg.conf and try it again.
Thanks,
Christian

Tested both of them, but no effect :-/

I finally got around to installing the RC7 version. I am running it with the latest 4.12 kernel that Sinan made.
Works very
Still no 3D acceleration on my Radeon 270X but that was to be expected. Right? I am using the fbdev driver in xorg.conf
I now have sound (I think it is the kernel)
.
One question: I used dd to copy the img to a partition as advised. Took a while but works fine. However I would like to know how to reclaim the rest of the space on the partition. I remember @Xeno writing somewhere that you can use Gparted for that.
Here is my Gparted as it looks now.
- Gparted
Thank you Xeno!!
Now it is only 3D that is missing.

There is a trick for that.
Please decrease the partition
sdb3 a little bit with GParted. After that you can increase the partition
sdb3 till the next partition.

Thank you. Could not decrease but increasing a couple of MB did the trick
.

Hi All,
If you want to use the MATE PowerPC Remix 2017 with the kernel
4.13 then please install the old Mesa version

Installation instructions:
Please boot the MATE PowerPC Remix 2017 with an older kernel like
4.9,
4.10,
4.11, or
4.12. After that, please install the Mesa version
17.0.1 with the following commands.
Code: Select all
sudo dpkg -i libgl1-mesa-dri_17.0.1-1ubuntu1_powerpc.deb
Code: Select all
sudo dpkg -i libgl1-mesa-glx_17.0.1-1ubuntu1_powerpc.deb
Afterwards, please reboot your X5000 with the kernel
