Preinstalled Ubuntu 16.04 Image compressed with as .bz2

http://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/f3cc ... g.bz2?dl=0
or
https://www.dropbox.com/s/f3cc7plr65srj ... g.bz2?dl=0

Boot from the U-boot shell with the following

Code: Select all

usb reset
setenv bootargs root=/dev/sdb2 rootdelay=10 mem=3500M
fatload usb 0:1 1000000 uImage-cyrus
fatload usb 0:1 1c00000 cyrus_5020.dtb
bootm 1000000 - 1c00000
Are the boot partition ('Amigaone') and Ubuntu_16.04 partition somehow specially 'adjusted' with each other in that preinstalled image? When I tried to boot using only that Ubuntu partition with Christian's uImage-4.17.3.and uInitrd, simply by replacing the partition label in my U-boot scripts, I got a kernel panic... My earlier Ubuntu 16.04 installation is partly broken and has problems with updates, so I would like to start with new one.

I am waiting for a new ramdisk that allows selecting the new server: ftp.ports.debian.org .
The powerpc files are no longer on the main Debian Mirrors .
So only current option is to do the basic install then change your sources.list and install the new key .
http://forum.hyperion-entertainment.biz ... 043#p45138
Then install the desktop etc .
The issue I run into is that the basic installer doesn’t include gnupg; which is required to import a key, and I could not apt-get install gnupg without the key, even when I included —allow-unauthorized.
For now you may still be able to do a Jessie base install and upgrade after changing the source.list etc.
Will have a try tomorrow ,

Roland,

Could you please boot it without a label and an uInitrd? There isn’t an uInitrd in the kernel 4.17.3 package and you can‘t boot it with an old uInitrd from an older kernel package.

Thanks,
Christian

?????? I use uInitrd-4.15.14 and it has worked with all kernel version I have so far tested, and with the following distros: Ubuntu 16.04-3, Mate Remix; Debian 8/9, Fedora 26/27, and Opensuse 11! Spectre's Ubuntu 16.04 is the first one which has failed so far.

I will first test with the same kernel version (4.15.14) and see what happens...
---
Using the matching kernel version did not solve the boot problem with Spectre's ubuntu...! I got this error message before kernel panic:

/sbin/init: error while loading shared libraries: /lib/powerppc-linux-gnu/libselinux.so.1: invalid ELF header

---Casey
The solution is to do the basic Debian 10 ppc32 install then install the debian-ports-archive-keyring.deb once you reboot into the new installation.
I copied the new source.list to the Debian ppc32 Sid partition 's /etc/apt and the .deb to /home using my Ubuntu 16.04 install then rebooted into new Debian ppc32 sid and did the installation of the debian-ports-archive key ring. Link to the .deb below
http://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/pm4z ... l.deb?dl=0

Code: Select all

cd /home
sudo dpkg -i *.deb
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
Then add the desktop

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-core lightdm mate-desktop-environment-extras

@Spectre
Are you still around here...?-)

I tried to use the Ubuntu 16.04.4 partition as a base for 16.04.5, from this package of yours:

Preinstalled Ubuntu 16.04 Image compressed with as .bz2
http://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/f3cc ... g.bz2?dl=0

The upgrade to 16.04.5 was succesful, but there appears to be several peculiarites in your installation:

- It has only OpenGL 2.2, whereas other 16.04 installations I have seen have OpenGL 3.0. Can you explain this, and tell how to update it to 3.0? Some programs seem to need 3.0 .

- It seems that the VLC port made by Christian does not work with your installation. Have you tested it yourself?

- In /etc/x11 directory there is a very short "xorg.conf" file and in addition to a longer "xorg.conf.cyrus" file, which seem to be close to the "xorg.conf" of other 16.04 installations. Is that some sort special 'boot hack' of yours? Just renaming xorg.conf.cyrus to xorg.conf does not work (black screen after booting).

@Roland

That .img served its purpose when it was needed but should now be considered obsolete .
The situation with mesa and powerpc has changed since then .

The first post in this thread has the info for the recommended option for doing a fresh install .
http://forum.hyperion-entertainment.biz ... 776#p41558

FBdev has to be enabled in Xorg.conf to allow the installation to boot with a Radeon HD southern Islands card .
Best option to enable the hardware acceleration for supported video cards and still have the option to boot with a Radeon SI card if needed is to
rename /usr/lib/xorg/modules/libglamoregl.so to /usr/lib/xorg/modules/libglamoregl.so.bak .
also /etc/X11/xorg.conf should be removed or renamed to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.bak .
This allows the Xorg server to automatically handle the configuration .

Code: Select all

    sudo mv '/usr/lib/xorg/modules/libglamoregl.so' '/usr/lib/xorg/modules/libglamoregl.so.bak'
    sudo mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.bak

Ok, thanks for informing me... I'm aware of those net-install options you have kindly made available. Unfortunately I do not have currently a decent internet account but just a prepaid here where my X5000 is. That's why I always prefer ready-made installation images (if available) which can be downloaded elsewhere and transported on physical media.

I tested with those changes, but unfortunately they resulted after booting into a black screen, no desktop was loaded.

After booting can you get a shell with cntrl+alt+F1 keys ? .

If yes then check to see if you can rename the mentioned files manually then reboot .

Code: Select all

sudo mv '/usr/lib/xorg/modules/libglamoregl.so' '/usr/lib/xorg/modules/libglamoregl.so.bak'
sudo mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.bak
There was an update to mesa in Ubuntu 16.04 in July this year which may be the problem .
