Second installation with not net mirrors done.
This works ok.
So all the components would have been installed from the USB thumb drive copy of the DVD.
Looks like either your graphics card or something else causing your problem .

Will try without the net upgrades .

I will try a Debian DVD install with my Oland card and see if It works for me.
Thanks! Could you please try it without allowing upgrades via net during installation...? That would show whether the very basic installation works.

Yes, I'm afraid so... What type of memory do you have on your r7 240? Mine has DDR3, which is not the best choise as it makes the card very slow. Some Radeon boards with DDR3 have also been reported to have problems with the AmigaOS RadeonHD driver, but at least my board works ok with it.

Anyway, I have to do some hardware testing. What might be the best choise if compatibility with Linux distros is the main criterium? A vanilla HD 5450?

Thank you for all your testing operations!-)

@Roland

My Card has DDR3 too.
I tend to swap cards out as I experiment quite a bit . Use what you have available.
The Oland is my low cost Radeon SI option . So I can take the risk of it being damaged as I swap it in and out.
a Northern Islands card will give you 3D and gpu video decoding under Linux but no 3D under AmigaOS 4.1 .
The Gpu video stuff in nice but something that I can live without so looks like the radeon SI cards will be the most used for me going forwards.
They have 2D support in Ubuntu16.04 and Debian 8 .

@Spectre

I got now a 5450 and tested to boot Debian8 with it... No problems! So my previous booting issue was indeed caused by the r7 240 I have. The question is can that problem somehow cured... Now I can at least do additional installations and updates using the 5450.

BTW, the boot problem with Mate 17.04 did also dissappear by using 5450.

@Roland

Can you try this updated kernel (4.12.4 version 2) with your r7 240 and Debian 8.
It has some radeon firmware that was not in previous kernels.
Did not affect my R7 240 but my new R750 (based on Verde chips) needed the missing firmware to boot anything.

Hi Julian,

I successfully tested your new stable kernel 4.12.4 version 2 with a Radeon HD4870 on my AmigaOne X5000 today. It works without any problems with openSUSE 11.1 on my AmigaOne X5000. Thank you. :-)

Running Linux on AmigaONEs can require some tinkering.

I will give it a try when I again put the r7 240 back into my machine... Thanks!-)
