openSUSE Tumbleweed

Postby Roland » Wed Aug 02, 2017 8:23 pm

I managed to install and run succesfully openSUSE Tumbleweed in my X5000 :-). It went quite straightforwardly, thanks to the ready made disk image and instructions kindly provided by Christian and Luigi in the X1000-Linux board (viewtopic.php?f=35&t=3446&start=19). I tested it with v. 4.9.39 Kernel.

Tumbleweed seemed to work fairly well at first glance... The only major problem I noticed was that some system parts were extremely slow, especially the prefs settings under Yast. So, still a lot of work for the developers...

Did not yet try to update it, I have to wait untill I get a faster internet connection.

Hi All,

I created with dd an img of my openSUSE Tumbleweed 20170924 PPC64 installation today.

Be aware, that openSUSE is experimental and isn't supported. openSUSE Tumbleweed is alpha software! It's only for testing and tinkering!

Download: openSUSE_Tumbleweed_20170924_ppc64.img.tar.gz

Users:

amigaone (password "amigaone")

If the automatic network configuration of openSUSE doesn't work then it is possible to configure the network manually. I created some network configuration instructions for openSUSE today. Link: forum.hyperion-entertainment.biz

If you want to see the splash screen then add splash=silent to the boot arguments.

Splash screen of openSUSE Tumbleweed:

Have a lot of fun with openSUSE Tumbleweed! :-)

Cheers,
Christian

Great news, thank you! Does this new image also include latest updates (compared to the one you had in X1000 board)? When I tested the older version, I was not able to download hardly any updates, due to missing dependencies...

Unfortunately I cannot now do any testing as my Cyrus+ was sent a couple of moths ago for repair... (the realtime clock issue).
I'm out of news of it for several weeks, don't know if it ever returns to me :-(.

SSH ACCESS

Hi All,

If you can't login to openSUSE Tumbleweed via SSH then deactivate the line PasswordAuthentication no with a hashtag (#) in the config file /etc/ssh/sshd_config. After that please restart the sshd service with rcsshd restart.

Cheers,
Christian
