I got this output:

multi-user.target
After that try the command sudo systemctl isolate graphical.target. You change to the graphical runlevel with this command.
After that command I got the login requester. After choosing the user and giving the password, there appeared first this error message:
***
Unable to connect settings server

Failed to connect to socket /run/users/1000/
bus: connection refused
***

After that, there was for a short time a white screen with the 'mouse' logo, then again an error message:
***
Unable to get connection to the message bus session

Could not connect: connection refused
***

And after closing that, there was only an empty screen with the default backround picture.

I rebooted and tried the command a second time but no change...

Hi Roland,

I successfully activated the graphical target on Fedora 26 Server PPC64 yesterday. Unfortunately I don't have Fedora 25 installed. I have updated it to Fedora 26 this year.

Cheers,
Christian

In lightdm you can choose one of some desktops and login. If it works then you can set up it as the default runlevel with sudo systemctl set-default graphical.target. After that please reboot for testing.
I was now able to run the commands above without error messages when I did it from the initial terminal prompt, after login. My previous attempts were done from the graphical desktop, after loading it with Startx. Unfortunately the booting did not change anyhow. I still have to login and start desktop from the initial terminal prompt...

I gave also a try to Fedora 26, but there seems to be something wrong with my installation as there were several errors concerning the ext4 filesystem and booting ends to the emergency mode. Trying to run the "systemctl isolate..." command ends just to hangup.
...
I made now a new Fedora26 installation on a diferent disk... Not anymore problems with the filesystem, and I was also able to get it to boot to the graghical desktop!-) Thank you for your 'recipe'! Looks like the slowness I noticed earlier with 26 was due to the file system problemes and not to the distro itself, as I first thought.

While testing 26, I noticed that 'Hardware lister' and 'GParted' did not start at all when I chose them from the menus... Is it the same for you?

Hi Roland,

I think a package is missing. Could you please start the 'Hardware Lister' with 'lshw-gui' via a terminal? Please post the terminal output messages.

Thanks,
Christian

The problem was in fact in the user privileges... When I logged in as 'root' I was able to open both 'Hardware lister' and 'GParted'.
I created a new user account and activated all possible groups for it. Now I can open all programs, some of the system tools asking for the password.

I was also able to choose Mate for desktop. The more I use Fedora 26, the more I like it!-) It is definitely not anymore alfa or just 'experimental', but deserves it's place among Ubuntu/Mate Remix and Debian... And it is great to have now for X5000 a working 64-bit distro, which is also developed further! When the big-endian support for Debian and Ubuntu was dropped, I was really disappointed. Now the future seems again brighter... :-).

Hi Roland,

Thanks a lot for your report. It's fantastic, that you was able to solve the problems.

Christian

I have noticed a couple of problems with Fedora 26...

1. Selecting a keyboard layout does not seem to have any effect even if the selection stays in the settings. I have tested several European layouts (France, Germany, Sweden...) but the keyboard still seems to work like the default English (US) one. Has anyone else been able to change it succesfully?

2. When login in as 'root' (via Light DM), the Mate desktop is always black. Selecting a backround or a style from the settings does not seem to have effect on this. Any solution...? If I remeber correctly, direct login from the initial terminal (before activating Light DM) did not have this problem.

Not a problem (at least yet!) but a request:

3. I noticed that also Qemu is available as an upgrade for Fedora. I have never used it before, but would it be possible to use Qemu to run an Intel based Linux distro on X5000? I wonder how fast/slow would it be, and what might be a good choise? Some older and 'lighter' distro? How do you boot it, can you just copy a bootable Linux partion from an intel machine to e.g. a USB stick?

My main interest for this would be to be able to use some www-pages still needing necessarily flash-player (e.g. some ticket services use it for selecting the seat). As this is not very demanding task (compared to playing videos), I suppose it might work at a reasonable speed...?

Hi Roland,

Yes, I was able to change the keyboard layout from the default layout 'English (US)' to German today. I added the German keyboard layout in the Keyboard Preferences. (System - Hardware - Keyboard - Tab Layouts). Then I removed the English keyboard layout. After a new login, the German keyboard layout works without any problems.

I got it working by removing the English layout, too! Obviously it was not enough to move the new layout to the top of the list as I tried first. Thank you for your help! :-)

I installed FireFox 54 for Fedora, using Dragonfora. It works (whereas v. 59, also from the default upgrade source, did not even start), but cannot show Live Stream videos. How can this be fixed, is there some extension/plugin which should be installed...? The stream I tried works ok with FF49 in Mate Remix 2017. I tested also Midori which is the default browser in Fedora, but the same problem...
