Anywhere to say hello for New NG Amiga users?

Postby ddni » Fri Dec 02, 2011 11:22 pm

Hi all,

I wanted to make a first post to formally introduce myself to the NG Amiga world, but I cant find a suitable thread or subforum... EDIT Apologies, this should have gone in off topic.

Many of you will know me from other Amiga sites.
I am a lifelong Amiga user and have owned most of the classic range.
Today I placed my order for an AmigaOne X1000. This is my first ever NG Amiga. :D
Now the wait for confirmation and delivery begins!

My coding skills are zero, my hardware skills are moderate, my tinkering interest is off the scale!
If there is a bug or incompatibility, I will stumble across it...
I look forward to getting my teeth into this New World of Amiga

I anticipate there being a few other newbies arriving in the next few months....

Welcome to the madhouse. It may be a while before you get your hands on your X-1000, but be prepared for a shock - you no longer click on something, then go make a cup of tea.
cheers

Hi, thanks for the welcome.
Any delay is simply more time to scrape hard cash together thus reducing the hit on my credit card ;)

oh bugger

So people are being informed now I guess

Don't lose heart, Easter isn't that far away! :D

I have no idea when another batch would come but I was thinking it would be nice to have an X1000 with an Easter egg ;)

Just skimmed through this thread quickly, so I might have missed something. I did not see any answer to the question about where us new OS4 users should introduce ourselves.

My X1000 was supposed to be delivered tomorrow, Wednesday, Feb. 15th, 2012, but FedEX has screwed up and did not clear the package properly through Customs when it arrived from AmigaKit, so now it has to be sent back from California, to their main distribution hub in Tennessee, where it can go through the Customs Clearing process properly this time, and then be shipped back to California, so it can be put on a truck to be delivered to my home in the mountains.

So, my first OS4.x compatible computer is going to be a few extra days getting to me, but now that I have received an email with the serial number for my OS4.1.5 product, I have registered it with Hyperion and hope to be admitted to the X1000 forum areas, to join in those discussions with other X1000 owners and beta-testers.

Let me know where I should introduce myself and bore all of you with my life story and Amiga history. :D

Edit: Sorry the OP did not get his order in to AmigaKit in time to purchase a "First Contact" X1000 system. I know that they sold out in about 36 hours. Not sure how large the production run was, but it is good to see that the demand for the X1000 is strong. Hopefully, another production run will happen soon and the OP will be able to get in on that batch. When ordering, or pre-ordering starts again, don't delay in getting your order sent in, as they might sell out again just as quickly, depending on how large the next production run is.

Until all the drivers for the X1000 motherboard are completed, I would consider any further production runs to still be "limited" productions runs. It will be interesting to see how many X1000's can get produced and sold during this first year of public release for the X1000.

Greetings there AmigaDave

I've seen many of your threads over time but don't think I've ever commented directly on anything, probably a good thing given my cynical old school vantage point which hasn't been distorted by time ;)

back on track -:

I do believe once you're validated?

You'll have access to write in the "Platform: AmigaOne X1000" section and inside that section is a thread called "Welcome First Contact customers"

Perhaps for the meantime at least that is where you and other new arrivals can say hello and submitt some background information as some others already have 8-)

@Raziel

This is an old thread that AmigaDave replied to recently and unfortunately ddni missed out too (if you read more of the thread)
