Sam440ep Flex: Lubuntu 14.10

Post by xeno74 »

I'm updating my Lubuntu 14.04 to 14.10. I want to do some beta testing.
  1. CTRL+ALT+F1 to change to the console login.
  2. Login as user
  3. Change your user to the root user with

    Code: Select all

    sudo su
  4. Stop X11 with

    Code: Select all

    service lightdm stop
  5. Update the package index of your old 14.04 system:

    Code: Select all

    apt-get update
  6. Upgrade your packages to the latest packages on your old 14.04 system

    Code: Select all

    apt-get upgrade
  7. Update your repositories to the new 14.10 repositories

    Code: Select all

    sed -i 's/trusty/utopic/g' /etc/apt/sources.list
  8. Update the package index of the new 14.10 system:

    Code: Select all

    apt-get update
  9. Upgrade your 14.04 system to version 14.10:

    Code: Select all

    apt-get dist-upgrade
  10. Reboot
  11. Login with your user
  12. Yeah, X11 works without xorg.conf :-)
  13. Tidy up :D

    Code: Select all

    sudo apt-get autoremove
  14. Download the kernel 3.16: Sam440ep-3.16.0.tar.gz
  15. Unpack the kernel package
  16. Copy the kernel modules directory to /lib/modules:

    Code: Select all

    sudo cp -R 3.16.0-Sam440ep /lib/modules
  17. Reboot your Sam440ep Flex and select Amiga OS4.1 Update 6 in the boot menu
  18. On OS4.1 download the kernel 3.16 again
  19. Unpack the kernel package
  20. Copy the kernel cuImage-3.16.0 to the boot drawer on the Amiga partition where the file menu.lst is located
  21. Add a boot entry to the menu.lst

    Code: Select all

    default 0
    delay 10
    title Lubuntu 14.10 Kernel 3.16
    kernel /boot/cuImage-3.16.0 root=/dev/sdb1

  22. Reboot your Sam440ep Flex and use the arrow keys to select and highlight Lubuntu 14.10 Kernel 3.16 in the boot menu

Thanks.
Also actually working on my Sam440ep-flex too.
The problem was the low setting of my monitor's speakers because of an issue with them.
Setting is ok for AmigaOS 4.1 but too low for Linux.
Works perfectly with headphones.

Posted as per request from OP:
Testing has begun for the Final Beta (Beta 2) of Lubuntu 14.10 Utopic
Unicorn. Head on over to the ISO tracker to download images, view
testcases, and report results:
http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/mile ... 324/builds

If you're new to testing, anyone can join and they don't have to be
Linux Jedis or anything. You can find all the information you need to
get started here:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu/Testing

Please note that we especially need testers for PPC chips and Intel
Macs. We have a special section discussing it here:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu/Testing/PPC%26Mac64

In particular, if you have an Intel Mac, I have a few questions for
you that might help us trim down the workload of the testing team.
Please get in touch with me directly.

Also, if you have a PPC chip, we're about the only distro actively
supporting this architecture. However, we are community supported, so
without formal testing, the arch will lose more support. So please
join in testing!

Please crosspost this everywhere, especially to any folks that may be
willing to help with PPC.

If you have any other questions or comments, please don't hesitate to
get in touch with me directly by email and/or IRC.
