Hi,
in the foremath of installing 4.1 FE I'll try to generate a bootable AmigaOS 4.1 Update 6 (final ) CD for my Sam440ep. In principle it's a backup of my actual Sam440ep-Workbench, burned with AmiDVD to a CD-R with "AmigaOS bootable" ticked on.
But whatever I try, it doesn't fetch the Kickstart from CD but HD. The Workbench afterwards *is* loaded from CD. But I would like a complete boot from CD including the Kickstart. The original AmigaOS CD (4.1 Beta for Sam440ep) and the new AmigaOS 4.1. FE disks do what they should: both load Kickstart from CD/DVD. So it should work...any ideas?
Edit: I did this as well for my Pegasos II and my AmigaOne X1000 - both perfectly do a full boot incl. Kickstart from CD...?

Is the slb file in the right place?

How is the order of devices on your Sam? If the HD comes before the CD (unit-wise), it might prefer the one it finds first.
cheers

Re: Sam440ep bootable CD
What I did for my own system was keep the Original Installation CD and then added an "Archives" disk of all the updates after that.
you could clone the content of the older update1/update2 disc and then apply all the updates to that before burning it back to disc,
hand-prepare everything with the updated Kickstart and the rest of it.
Would that solve the issue ?

Yes, slb_v2 (1.19) lives in L:.zeroG wrote:Is the slb file in the right place?
UBoot variables are "standard", which reads: boot1=s4siicdrom, boot2=s4sii. In hardware the HD connects to ide unit 0, the DVD drive to ide unit 1. But I still think this shouldn't be the problem of UBoot envs or physical connection of drives, because the original "AmigaOS media" (4.1 CD, 4.1 FE DVD) both work perfectly as expected and do a full boot incl. Kickstart form CD/DVD. Only the AmiDVD burned CDs don't work that way.tonyw wrote:How is the order of devices on your Sam? I'm sure that would solve the general issue. Nevertheless I would like to be able to burn CD media which do a complete boot sequence including loading the Kickstart from CD (or DVD) for my Sam440ep*.Belxjander wrote:Would that solve the issue ?
AFAIK I only should tick the "AmigaOS bootable" in AmiDVD and the "UBoot bootbale" tick is only for upgrading/flashing a new UBoot, isn't it?
*for my X1k and Peg2 they actually do exactly that.

:
I know what I did to transition to AOS4.1FE from 4.1.6 by hand on my own customized system after installation to the partition I have set aside for installation and update checking.
maybe you can do the same thing in making a new ISO image.

Yes, that is correct.FAIK I only should tick the "AmigaOS bootable" in AmiDVD
You DID make an ISO of the disk contents source tree and use that ISO as the source for AmiDVD, didn't you?
cheers

Re: Sam440ep bootable CD
Yes, I did (except some alterations in WBStartup - you really don't want to laod all that stuff from CD...). I checked the ISO with diskimage.device, did a verify after burning and in the end the Sam boots the Workbench just nicely from CD. Bot not the Kickstart. Pfff...tonyw wrote:You DID make an ISO of the disk contents source tree and use that ISO as the source for AmiDVD, didn't you?
Oh, that would be nice.Belxjander wrote:'ll have to try this on my own sam440ep-flex
