Filer: Suggestion: drawers -> folders

Post by marko »

In Filer, since we are running Workbench, I suggest changing the "folders" string in status to "drawers", please.

"Filer" is not part of AmigaOS and is not under our control. I suggest you send your suggestion to the authors.

Hmm, what I got was that Hyperion got the Filer application from OpenAmiga.org and now controls it too, no?

Now that I take a look, I see that you are right, there are sources for it in the Hyperion repository (under contributions). I would have to assume that they are up to date.

I wonder if the Filer code has been touched at all since acquiring the rights.

dunno, but it'd be wonderful to integrate the commodity version more cleanly into workbench somehow. i quite like filer, more so than other alternatives. it'd be terrific to see this pushed by interested devs.

Strictly speaking, there's no "commodity version" - the commodity is just a launcher for the main executable. But yes, it'd be nice to have Filer updated and integrated into Workbench.

Frankly, I don't like the Filer GUI at all. It's nothing like Workbench and I fail to see how you could make a successful merger of the two.

+1.

But there are also those that prefer DOpus 5 with its socalled WB replacement mode over DOpus 4. Tastes are personal.

As long as such "integration" is optional and won't deteriorate our beloved Workbench for those of us preferring that, I don't see why alternatives shouldn't exist and be supported by whoever want to.

Best regards,

Niels
