Just an update on 17.04

I've continued testing and have ran into surprisingly very few issues (which makes it even more disappointing we will get no future releases). The major issue that I've run into is that no video player will work. In 16.04 smplayer / mplayer worked well. In 17.04 mplayer does not recognize any output drivers and gives an error upon loading the video. mpv works but only without using hardware acceleration (no vdpau); trying to enable hardware acceleration results in a completely locked up system. mplayer worked with hardware acceleration (vdpau) in 16.04. With no good options for video, and no future 17.04 releases I will likely go back to using 16.04.

The "Video Output Driver" menu lists only "Default" and "User Defined" (missing opengl, etc.)

Hi Christian,
I think the issue with VLC on X5000 is that it has Altivec optimizations.

Hi All,

Lubuntu and ubuntu MATE have stopped the building of the daily build ISOs for PowerPC but I was able to upgrade ubuntu MATE 17.04 PowerPC today.

Links:
I do a lot of advertising for the PowerPC platform on the ubuntu MATE google+ and Facebook page. I hope I can postpone the dropping of ubuntu MATE PowerPC.
I will update my installed development version of ubuntu MATE 17.04 as long as possible. After that I will try to release an unofficial ubuntu MATE 17.04 USB img with the latest Firefox, Thunderbird, and some nice wallpapers for the X5000 and X1000. I will use the name "MATE PowerPC Remix 2017" for the unofficial ubuntu MATE 17.04 PowerPC.

Cheers,
Christian

The developers of Lubuntu wants to remove the last PowerPC daily build in a few days.

I downloaded the last ISOs and uploaded them to my web space yesterday.

If Xorg doesn't work with your SI Radeon graphics card, please replace the radeon video driver with the fbdev driver in the xorg.conf (/etc/X11/xorg.conf) on your USB flash drive.

Hi Christian,
Thanks for releasing. I was able to boot into the image with my X5000, and it seems to run very well. Firefox 47 and 50 both run well. Firefox 47 was set to German, Firefox 50 was set to English.
I'm able to run SuperTuxKart on my X5000, and it runs very nicely. Did you recompile the game without Altivec extensions?
VLC does not work. I think Luigi said he compiled VLC from source without Altivec extensions to get it to work. I have not tried this yet. Perhaps you could incorporate VLC without Altivec?
Will there be an install script and/or a debian installer released?

Thanks again!
