Hi,
I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong but I'm not able to boot into MATE PowerPC Remix 0.4.
I have a boot partition on my USB drive with the X5000 boot files, I made a new partition, used rsync to copy your image to the partition I made, and entered the setenv and fatload commands into the Uboot command prompt, it starts loading but then gives the message:

Code: Select all

Kernel Panic - not syncing: No working init found
Try passing init= option to kernel.
I haven't run into this before. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
I was able to boot into your 0.3 image fine, but I set that up using dd.

First, please try it with 'dd' again.

Could you please post the rsync command, which you used? With which file system did you format the second partition?

Hi xeno, thanks for your reply!
Here are the exact commands I entered:

Code: Select all

casey@Utopia:~$ sudo mount /home/casey/Documents/X5000/MATE_PowerPC_Remix_2017_0.4.img /mnt
casey@Utopia:~$ sudo mount /dev/sdb5 /media
casey@Utopia:~$ sudo rsync --stats --progress --numeric-ids -axAhHSP /mnt /media
Here is the USB drive I am using:

I have tried ext4 (as you can see in the image) and also ext3. Both give the same error:

I made an error, I meant I was able to boot into Mate PowerPC Remix 0.1 with dd, using the image you provided that also included a boot partition.

Please note: There isn't a boot partition in this image. You can create an extra boot partition and copy the image to another partiton on your USB flash drive.

@caseycullen

Please try the 0.5 with 'dd' again. You can copy partitions with 'dd' as well.

xeno,
0.5 worked for me using dd.

Firefox 50 and 52 work, but they display wrong colors for videos (YouTube), even after I disabled layers.acceleration in about:config.

Firefox 47 displays correct colors. Video playback also seems to be much smoother even using the native YouTube video player.

No change with VLC, still doesn't work on X5000. I haven't tested MPlayer/mpv yet, but I will let you know how it goes. Please consider adding Kodi if possible.

This is really great, thanks for all the hard work you've put into this!

@caseycullen

Many thanks for testing the version 0.5 of the MATE PowerPC Remix 2017. The video issue is one of some reasons why we have some Firefox versions on the MATE PowerPC Remix 2017. The latest versions of Firefox are from Debian Sid.

Hi Xeno.

I'm so donkey. I can't make run your image. I try with the first image you make.
I give and error in the second line. "bad usb 0"
There's a guide for fools to make run in a X5000 ?

Thanks

You only need to copy the image with 'dd' to a partition on your USB flash drive.

Create two partitions on your USB flash drive. A small FAT16 boot partition and a big partition without a file system. Copy the dtb file and the Linux kernel to the first small FAT16 boot partition. After that copy the MATE PowerPC Remix img with 'dd' to the second big partition.

For example the partition /dev/sdd2 on a USB flash drive:

Code: Select all

sudo dd if=MATE_PowerPC_Remix_2017_0.5.img of=/dev/sdd2
You can boot it with the following commands (for example from /dev/sdd2):

Code: Select all

setenv bootargs root=/dev/sdd2 rootdelay=5 mem=3500M radeon.pcie_gen2=1

Code: Select all

fatload usb 0:1 1000000 uImage-4.9

Code: Select all

fatload usb 0:1 1c00000 cyrus.dtb

Code: Select all

bootm 1000000 - 1c00000
If it doesn't boot then try "usb start" and "usb reset".
