Is this part true?
Now to download Linux on to the X5000, you will need a PC or a Linux machine to generate a disk image on to a USB flash drive which will act as your opening portal to the world of Linux.
I hope not. I have an X5000 coming soon, but will never have a PC. Does Raspberry Pi count as a Linux machine? I do have one of those.

You can do it from Amigaos 4.1 .

Hi Spectre

Can you advise how to create a disk image on AmigaOS 4.1 and I will use this to update the blog post for others :)

Sorry to be brief but having some issues to deal with.
If you go through these steps you should be able to write it up .

Download and use the 7za tool/command to decompress the .img (if compressed) .
Tool in the archive below
http://amiga.sourceforge.net/?showpackage=p7zip

7za e <archivename>

use MediaToolbox to Install the USB thumb drive that you will write the .img to before the rawdisk copy .
(This seems to be the only way to make Rawdisk find the proper starting sector to write to)
This means a soft reboot of the machine (or hard reboot if your have a graphics card that does not work with a soft reboot)

Use the AmigaOS utility Rawdisk to copy the decompressed .img file to the USB thumbdrive eg:

SYS:Utilities/Rawdisk from <imagename> to usb0:

Cheers.

There are also some ramdisks that will do an install from scratch via the web.

I should upload a smallish empty FAT32 .img so that some one can use the .img copying technique from AmigaOS 4.1 to create the FAT32 USB thumb drive to copy the kernel, dtb and ramdisk to for installing . Thus no other computer system needed .

@outrun1978

I was able to copy the FAT32 .img under AmigaOS 4.1 on to a NTFS formatted drive thumb drive without having to install the thumb drive first on my X5000.
Result an empty 256MB FAT32 partition ready to copy the kernel ,cyrus_520.dtb and ramdisk to from AmigaOS 4.1 .

See here for empty FAT32.img .

Hi outrun1978,

Many thanks for the great blog post! :-) I've found two things for updating.

1) You don't need the boot argument mem=3500M anymore. You wrote mem3500M without equal sign. Does it work?

You wrote:
Then click on the icon to use the alternative script again and this time press option 2 to copy across the files to your new drive. It will prompt you to ask what device you wish to copy these to and as I am copying this across to device Sdd2 I will need to enter dev/sdd2 and the copying of the files will commence.
2) One slash is missing in the Device name input field. (/dev/sdd2)

Thanks,
Christian
